Accessibility
Accessible by design.
Accessibility is at the heart of what we do, in the wayfinding we deliver and in this website. We aim to meet WCAG 2.2 AA, and we want to hear about anything that gets in your way.
01Our commitment
Accessible design is the core of our work. We design wayfinding so that everyone can find their way through a building, including people with low vision, people who are blind, people with cognitive or neurological conditions, wheelchair users and people who don't read English. We hold this website to the same standard.
This statement covers wayfindersgroup.com. It explains the standard we aim for, what we have done to meet it, where we know we fall short, and how to tell us about a problem.
02The standard we aim for
We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA. WCAG explains how to make web content more accessible for disabled people and is the basis of the European accessibility standard EN 301 549.
We consider this website partially conformant with WCAG 2.2 AA: most of the site meets the standard, and the known exceptions are listed below.
03What we have done
The site has been built with accessibility in mind from the start. In particular:
- Pages use semantic HTML: one main heading, a logical heading order, landmarks and labelled navigation.
- A “Skip to content” link is the first thing a keyboard user reaches on every page.
- Every interactive element can be reached and used with a keyboard, and has a visible focus outline.
- The site is set in black and white for body text, well above the minimum contrast ratio, and colour is never the only way information is shown.
- Images that carry information have descriptive alternative text. Decorative images are hidden from screen readers.
- FAQ sections use native disclosure controls, which work with screen readers and without JavaScript.
- Animation is reduced or switched off when your device asks for reduced motion.
- Text can be resized up to 200% and the layout reflows to a single column on narrow screens, without horizontal scrolling.
- Form fields have visible labels, and errors are explained in text.
- Office addresses and phone numbers are given as text, not only on a map.
04Known limitations
We know of the following areas that may not fully meet WCAG 2.2 AA. We are working on them.
- PDF brochures. Our downloadable brochures are designed for print and may not be fully accessible to screen readers. Every brochure can also be read online as a web page, and we can send the content in another format on request.
- Interactive map. The office map on the contact page may be difficult to use with a keyboard or screen reader. The same addresses, phone numbers and directions are given as text on the page.
- Older content and project images. Some older articles and images may have less detailed alternative text than we would like. We are reviewing them.
- Third-party content. Content from other services, such as map tiles and external links, is outside our direct control.
05Tell us about a barrier
If you find something on this site you can't use, or you need information in a different format, please tell us. Let us know the page address and what went wrong, and we'll reply and tell you how we plan to fix it.

06How we test
This statement is based on a self-assessment of the site by Wayfinders, using automated accessibility checks alongside manual review: keyboard-only navigation, zoom and reflow, and contrast checks against our black, white and yellow palette.
This statement was prepared on 16 October 2026. We will review it whenever the site changes significantly.
07Accessibility in your building
The same principles apply to the buildings we work on. We audit existing signage against Part M, BS 8300 and the Official Languages Act and give you a clear, prioritised plan to put things right.
