Wayfinders

What we do

Everything wayfinding needs, from one supplier.

We do one discipline, and every part of it, end to end. From the first journey map to the last sign installed and maintained, you have one accountable partner.

Systems, not signs

We are the only dedicated wayfinding company in the UK and Ireland. It's all we do. We design, supply and install complete wayfinding systems for large, complex buildings, with one supplier carrying the work from strategy to maintenance.

Signage is usually bought as a line item and split between a design studio, a sign shop and a fit-out subcontractor. Nobody owns the outcome, so the programme absorbs the gaps: approvals that bounce for months, errors found on site, snags at handover.

We treat wayfinding as a system instead. One naming convention, one destination schedule and one sign family, designed once and held across every floor, building and phase. Design, project management and installation are run by our own teams, and we have been doing it for nearly 50 years.

01Capabilities

Eight capabilities, one system

Appoint us for the whole lifecycle or start with the stage you need. Every capability is built to plug into the next.

01The plan before the signs.

Strategy & masterplanning

Wayfinding strategy decides what information a building gives people, where, and in what order, before any sign is designed. We walk the real journeys, map every decision point, settle one name for every destination and build the destination schedule that sets the hierarchy. The sign family, manufacture and installation are all drawn from that plan.

02Designed to be followed.

Wayfinding & signage design

Wayfinding design turns the strategy into a sign family people can follow: types, sizes, typography, pictograms, colour, contrast and materials, resolved as one system across a building or an estate. Our own architects and graphic designers draw it to complement your architecture and identity, to Part M and BS 8300 by default, with every sign approved individually.

03Space that speaks.

Environmental graphics

Environmental graphics are the large-scale layer of a wayfinding system: supergraphics, murals, feature walls, floor graphics, glass manifestation and donor recognition. We design them with the signage, from the same strategy, palette and type, so they become the landmarks people steer by. A ward found by its mural, a floor by its numeral, a yard by its name.

04Wayfinding that updates itself.

Digital & smart wayfinding

Digital wayfinding is a second layer laid over a complete static system: directory screens, room-booking panels, live clinic or event information, QR codes and mobile navigation. We specify it only where information changes faster than a panel can be remade, name who owns the content, and make sure the building still works when every screen is dark.

05Compliant by default, audited on demand.

Accessibility & compliance audits

A signage accessibility audit is a measured survey of an existing building against Part M, BS 8300 and, for public bodies, the Official Languages Act. We record contrast, light levels, mounting heights, letter sizes and tactile and braille provision, then hand you a schedule of findings sorted into a prioritised, costed plan of fixes.

06Made to spec, or above it.

Manufacture

Every sign we supply is made to the approved specification or above it, in stove-enamelled aluminium and other long-life materials. Before dispatch it is checked against the production drawing for contrast, tactile relief and braille, batch-checked against its neighbours, labelled with its schedule reference and packed in installation order. Each one carries a 10-year warranty.

07Fitted without the fuss.

Installation

Our own installation teams survey, set out, fix and snag every sign to the schedule: correct height, correct location, clean finish. They work to the construction programme, in live hospitals, schools and offices as well as new builds, and hand over an as-installed schedule with a photograph of every sign, ready for certification.

08Right for the long run.

Maintenance & lifecycle

Signage maintenance keeps an installed wayfinding system legible, accurate and compliant for the life of the building. We run condition surveys, content updates and panel replacements from the as-installed record, so a department renamed in year four is a line item rather than an investigation. Everything we supply carries a 10-year warranty.

03For main contractors

Why one supplier matters to a main contractor

Tier-one contractors are our main buyers. These are the reasons they give for appointing us, in the order they give them.

01

Speed and systems

Approvals cut from months to days. Sign schedules are generated from your floorplans and fire drawings, every sign is reviewed on one live schedule, and projects average 1.8 design rounds to approval. BIM export and construction-management integration are live.

02

Price

Carried end to end by one supplier, a wayfinding package typically lands up to 20% below the fragmented route of separate designer, fabricator and fitter. Fixed price per apartment on residential schemes.

03

One point of accountability

One contract from the first drawing to the signed certificate. No hand-offs between packages, no names drifting between suppliers, and no chasing three firms when something is wrong on site.

04

Design quality

A sign family designed by architects and graphic designers who do nothing but wayfinding, resolved as one system across a building or a whole estate, so it reads as part of the architecture.

04FAQs

Common questions

Something else? Ask us directly.

What does Wayfinders do?

We design, supply and install complete wayfinding systems: strategy, design, environmental graphics, digital wayfinding, compliance, manufacture, installation and maintenance. It's all we do. We are the only dedicated wayfinding company in the UK and Ireland, and we have been doing this for nearly 50 years.

Why appoint one supplier from strategy to maintenance?

Because every hand-off between a designer, a fabricator and a fitter costs time and money. Carried by one supplier, a package typically lands up to 20% below the fragmented route, approvals move from months to days, and the main contractor has one point of accountability from the first drawing to the signed certificate.

How fast are signage approvals?

Days, not months. Every sign sits on one live schedule with its approval state, comment thread and revision history, so the client, architect and project manager review the same document. Across our projects, a design takes 1.8 rounds to approval on average.

Who certifies that the signage is compliant?

We do. Every system is designed to Part M and BS 8300 by default, and to the Official Languages Act where it applies. On completion we sign the compliance certificates ourselves and hand over the as-installed record for the building file.

Can you work in our BIM model and construction management system?

Yes. The package can be exported to the federated model as objects with locations, types and attributes, ready to coordinate and clash-check, and sign status, outstanding approvals and programme dates can surface in the construction management system your site team already runs.

What warranty do you give?

A 10-year warranty on every sign we supply and install. Maintenance runs from the as-installed schedule, so a department renamed years later is a line item rather than an investigation.

Send us the floorplans.

Floorplans and fire drawings are enough to start. We'll come back with what the building needs, what it costs and how long it takes.
